In the east, the Dolomite Mountains are famous for their dramatic limestone peaks and an extensive network of hiking trails, including the Alta Via 1. While hiking in the Dolomites, experience iconic mountain huts, cozy inns nestled in the mountains, and hearty meals to fuel your adventure. Further south in the foothills of the Alps, the Barolo wine region of Piedmont is one of the world’s most famous wine-producing areas in Northern Italy and is also home to delicious chocolates and truffles.

There are many ways to experience hiking in the Italian Alps. Venture over the boarder into France or Switzerland and hike iconic routes like the Tour du Mont Blanc and the Tour of the Matterhorn.  Or, if you’re looking for a more relaxed adventure, consider the Italian Lakes, with a visit to Lake Como. Another unique way to discover this region is on the Via Francigana, known as the “Italian Camino,” and travel a portion of an ancient pilgrimage trail that goes from Canterbury to Rome. Traveling on a self-guided trip with Macs Adventure lets you explore this exciting area of Italy at your own pace.
