Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive FornalutxArriving into Palma Airport, you will be transferred to the small village of Fornalutx (45m), in it’s wonderful hilltop location.
Check into your boutique hotel and enjoy dinner at one of the many terrace restaurants with views of the pine-clad foothills of Puig Major.
Located on a tranquil, traffic-free street in Fornalutx, this beautiful hotel was previously a convent and has now been beautifully restored and modernised into a charming little boutique hotel.
The hotel has a magnificent view of the Serra de Tramuntana and its stone walled terraces of olive and orange trees – the area’s traditional produce. Each of the 14 apartments has air conditioning/warm air heating, a telephone and Wi-Fi connection, satellite television and a safe. There is a large swimming pool where you can take a dip and cool down. It has a large terrace where you can sunbathe whilst enjoying the view of the surrounding countryside.
You will be encompassed with the tranquility around you.
The Ca’n Pera Village House has five guest rooms each with its own ensuite full bathroom. Every room has at least one window with a great view, so you can start each day with a breath of fresh air and beautiful mountain inspiration.
You have two choices today. The first is a walk from Fornalutx on the Cami de s’Alzina Fumadora. This cobbled bridle path winds its way steeply up between olive and orange trees, but you are rewarded with excellent views of the mountains surrounding the valley.
The other walk is a slightly easier option as it is mostly downhill, from the Cuber reservoir to the L’Ofre pass for 360 degree views over to the Bay of Palma and Bay of Alcudia. Then descend down through the Biniaraix Gorge on an ancient pilgrim’s trail with some striking cave formations, back to Fornalutx.
Loop Walk from Fornalutx: 11km, 3hrs, 557m Ascent, 560m Descent.
Walk from Cuber to Fornalutx: 12km, 3-4 hrs, 424m Ascent, 1030m Descent

Leaving Fornalutx, you head towards the pretty village of Soller today. Walk the Cami de Sa Capelleta through shaded pine trees to the Sanctuary of “Sa Capelleta”. Continue along zig-zagging paths through tranquil olive groves and through the beautiful Sa Figuera valley to Port de Soller.
This wide bay lined with a sandy beach and plenty of seafront restaurants is the perfect place to soak up the atmosphere before continuing to the village of Soller by the old-fashioned tramway. (payable locally).
Ascent: 244m
Descent: 396m

You have various choices to tempt you for your following two days spent in Soller. A short walk from Port de Soller with views over the coast takes you to the Cap Gros lighthouse and the area of Muleta Gran with its impressive defence tower. Or for the ultimate picnic walk, enjoy a climb to the Torre Picada watchtower, before following a path below the Puig Balitx cliffs to a fantastic look-out point over Sa Illeta island.
A final option, combining boat and tram trips with walking, takes you through a lush valley, and along a beautiful coastal path to Cala Tuent, before returning by boat to Port de Soller, and then tram to Soller. Please note that the boat required on this day does not operate on a Sunday.
Port de Soller to Muleta Gran & Cap: 8.5km, 3-4 hours, ascent 199m, descent 211m
Walk to Torre Picada: 5km, 2 hours, ascent/descent 199m

Enjoy one of the other walks or you may choose to simply relax and enjoy the sun! Another popular option is to take the vintage train to the capital, Palma. This wooden, narrow-gauge train has been in operation since 1912 and takes you back in time as it clatters through the Mallorcan countryside.

Following the Cami del Castillo, head to the previous artist’s colony of Deia. The route is a lovely one following the GR221 and with superb sea views for part of it.
With it’s honey-coloured houses, Deia has inspired many artists and musicians since the 19th century, including the English poet and novelist Robert Graves. Today it is home to many little art galleries as well as some top-notch restaurants, where you can try local specialities and tapas, before taking one of the regular buses to Valldemossa (payable locally).
Ascent: 427m
Descent: 285m
A small hotel combing the hallmarks of the region’s traditional lifestyle with a more contemporary atmosphere. Enjoy Mediterranean breakfasts and their relaxation zone, where guests can enjoy freshly-brewed coffee or a glass of wine.
Formerly a stately manor house, the Sa Vall Interior Hotel is set in a beautiful natural setting on the outskirts of Valldemossa and has an open-air swimming pool, extensive gardens, and stunning views of the Sierra de Tramuntana.
After visiting Mallorca in 1867, Austrian Archduke Ludwig Salvator was so taken by it that he was inspired to create this route from the beautiful village of Valldemossa. It takes in various spectacular vantage points and also provides an insight into traditional mountain industries, passing several charcoal ovens and lime kilns.
Valldemossa is commonly referred to as one of the prettiest villages in Mallorca, it has motivated artists and composers alike, one of which was Chopin, who lived there from 1838-39. Visit the Carthusian monastery or enjoy sweet treats such as ’coca de patata’ (a sweet potato cake) from one of the traditional family bakeries.

Check out after breakfast, and say farewell to Mallorca. You will be transferred back to Palma Airport for your flight home.
This trip has a carbon score of 7kg per person per night, meaning it’s one of our best trips! For comparison, a carbon count of 7kg is equivalent to 1 single running shoe (not even a pair!). Here at Macs, we pride ourselves on being a responsible travel company and continue to adopt, develop and innovate ways to positively impact the environment. Find out more information about how we've carbon counted our trips.
Other Information
Is it for me?With either 2 or 3 nights in each village, you can choose to kick back and relax, sightsee or enjoy lovely walks. The combination of fantastic walking, pretty villages, mountain views, glittering coastline and beautiful hotels and fincas all combine to make this the perfect holiday in Mallorca.
Slower Adventures | Where walking and cycling meet easy-going exploring, our Slower Adventures are the perfect combination. Most days are filled with picturesque journeys with some free time to dive into the destination and experience the people, local food and culture as you go.
Inn to Inn Walking | Walk from place-to-place changing accommodations each night. Generally staying in B&Bs, inns, and guesthouses.
Solo Travellers
This trip is graded as easy-moderate overall as many of the walks are optional or have shorter options. Most of the walks follow gravel and paved tracks, and you occasionally follow minor roads, with one short section on a busier road between Deia and Soller. The longest walk we have suggested is 16.5km, and the shortest is 7km. There are also several options for a few of the days giving you lots of flexibility depending on how much walking you want to do (or not to do!)
7 Nights accommodation is included in your trip. We have carefully selected boutique hotels that ensure you will have the most relaxing of holidays in Mallorca and make your stay even more memorable. The accommodation we normally use is detailed below, however is subject to availability and therefore alternatives of a similar standard may be offered.
Accommodation location
We will always try and accommodate you at the locations detailed in your itinerary. Occasionally, because of limited availability, there is the option to be accommodated at an alternative location. In the unlikely event that we have to accommodate you elsewhere we will advise you of this before confirming your booking.
Single Rooms & Solo Walkers
This trip is not available to solo walkers. If you require single rooms within your party we would be happy to accommodate your request. A single supplement is payable.
Meals
7 Breakfasts are included. To keep things flexible, lunches and dinners are not included. You can pick up picnic lunches from local shops or markets or stop off at restaurants en-route. Drinks and evening are available either at your accommodation or nearby restaurants.
Some of the walks are waymarked with signs for the GR221 or other local paths, and we supply detailed 1:40,000 trail maps so you should not have any problems finding your way.

You can start this walking tour on any day of your choice between March and June, and September to October. We don’t recommend July or August as it tends to be too hot for walking then. The best months for walking tend to be between March and May, and September through to October, when the temperatures are a bit cooler. Mallorca is very popular and the accommodations do fill up quickly so we recommend booking as early as possible.
Please note that this tour is only available for departures from mid October 2016. If you would like to travel in September 2016 please contact us to discuss some other options.
Time of Year
In our opinion, the best months to travel are May and September, when the temperatures are nice and pleasant for walking. Flowers will also be in full bloom in May.
By Air - Palma is the main airport in Mallorca and has direct flights from most major airports in the UK and flying time is just over two hours from London. Airlines include Easyjet, British Airways, Ryanair, Thomson Flights, Flybe & Jet2.
Airport transfers are included to and from Palma Airport.
Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight stay. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person.
The distances and ascent/descents are approximations of the recommended routes.
Please be prepared by packing all necessary items, for example, proper rain gear (jacket and pants), sun hat, sunscreen. Your information pack has a detailed equipment list which includes standard walking gear such as good walking boots or shoes, warm and waterproof clothes for the cooler months and lightweight clothing for summer, and a day pack.
It is a requirement of booking this tour with Macs Adventure that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the activity and emergency evacuation and hospital care.
We suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised as the region is extremely popular and the accommodations do get booked up quickly. However, we will always try our very best to accommodate your plans.
