If you choose a walking holiday that includes luggage transfer, as most of the Macs Adventure tours do, you will still need to take with you a day-sized rucksack. This rucksack will be where you carry daytime kit, such as spare layers, waterproof jacket, mobile phone, camera, snacks, lunch and water bottle or water bladder. The size will depend on exactly how much you want to take with you but generally this will be a 28 to 40 litre pack. The brand boast that this is their most ventilated rucksack ever, which makes it ideal for fast walking days or when temperatures on your walking tour are high. The Trail Speed has evolved from the iconic Freeflow rucksacks range with the aim of minimising contact points with the body. The pack has good shoulder straps and a sturdy waist belt for comfort when carrying the pack full of kit. The pack is aimed at climbers and hikers and has some other notable features including side compression straps to keep any size of load inside the pack stable and extra deep side pockets for stowing water bottles or other gear safely. 4) For a super lightweight pack that hugs the body check out the Inov-8 Race Pro 30 rucksack. These packs are specifically designed for runners but they offer great fit and comfort for walkers, too. The design is more pared down than walking packs but there are still some great features including Padded shoulder straps, stretch mesh and weather-proof hip pockets and larger rear stretch mesh pockets. 5) Karrimor gear offers good value for money and the Hot Rock 30 rucksack is an affordable and practical choice. The rigid back support and “FForm Backsystem”, as well as padded shoulderstaps and waist strap offer good comfort levels for all-day walking. This Karrimor rucksack has a large compartment for all your kit and a separate place to put a water bladder. Remember that if your rucksack does not have a raincover you should pack your kit in dry bags so it does not get wet in rainy weather.
