With love in the air this week as we celebrate Valentine’s Day, here are six of our favourite romantic walking and cycling tours.
Bicycles made for two
Pedal off into the distance on a bicycle made for two.
A tandem cycle tour must surely be one of the most romantic ways to enjoy an active holiday as a couple. Choose a flatter, more leisurely route and pedal off into the sunset on a bike that is made just for the two of you. There are plenty of ideas for cycling holidays with a tandem hire bike, such as the Moselle Cycle Path, Lower Lake Constance and Holland Bike & Boat.
The city of love
City of love.
Paris is known as the City of Love and for a number of reasons, including its beautiful landmarks, the sound of the language and its popularity as a honeymoon destination. Although other cities sometimes claim the same moniker, Paris earns its name as a place where romance blossoms. Why not visit Paris as part of a walking or cycling holidays to France? You could add on a few days in the French capital before or after your tour. Ideas for holidays might include the Loire Valley Trails or walking the Camino de Santiago (Camino Frances).
Second city of love
Love is always in the air in Venice
Venice is another European destination much loved for romantic breaks. The Italian city is the perfect place to stroll streets hand in hand, stop for coffee and a spot of people watching or sit arm in arm on a gondola as someone else does the more arduous duties propelling the craft around pretty canals. Why not visit during an Italy Bike & Boat holiday. See other Venice cycling holidays.
Walk the Romantic Road
History and romance combined
The name says it all and a walking holiday on Germany’s Romantic Road is perfect for couples who enjoy a combination of historic towns and cities, beautiful scenery and beer! 92km is mainly easy going and allows lots of time for leisurely walking, visiting tourism attractions and generally enjoying each other’s company. Simply follow the signs for the Romantische Straße all along the route and let romance lead you forwards... See our Adventure of the Week for more inspiration.
Romantic train journeys
Take a train journey through stunning Scottish landscapes
There is something very romantic about a train journey through a fabulous landscape. Sat opposite each other, or side by side, you will be content to look out of the window and enjoy the countryside as it whizzes by, while sharing a bottle of fizz and a picnic. Scotland’s West Highland Line offers a superb train journey or how about The Highlands & the Isle of Skye: Rail and Hike trip?

Through the centuries, numerous foods have been claimed as having special aphrodisiac powers.
